  33. :Yaesu has a fix for the intermod problem.  Mine is really bad, too.
  34. :You will need to send your radio to Yaesu for the 'intermod fix'.  It
  35. :is considered to be a warrenty item.   From what I understand, they will
  36. :change the IF frequency so (hopefully) the intermod problems will be 
  37. :somewhere other than the ham band.  Postings from CI$ have said that
  38. :there is MUCH improvement.   You will be without your radio for a couple

  48. I know you are looking for a keyboard-initiated solution to 
  49. this, and I don't believe there is one.  However, I believe
  50. it can be done by messing with the internals. I have a
  51. price sheet here of mods I picked up at a ham fest, and  
  52. Trionyx Inc of 6775 N 550E Bronsburg, IN 46112 offers to
  53. extend the receive (and tx) of the Ft-470 to 430-470 for $85.

  68.       The band between 29.7     and  30  MHz  receives     almost     no
  69.       coverage  in the radio monitoring press.  This may be    due
  70.       to several  years  of     poor  propagation  and     unreliable
  71.       reception.   This  year,  however,  propagation  has been
  72.       great,  and  listeners  in  the  US  can   hear   several
  73.       interesting,    albeit difficult to identify communications
  74.       in that band.

  76.       Spanish  language  communications  can  be  heard  on     FM
  77.       repeaters,  like  on    29.9 MHz, for example. I can hear a
  78.       dispatcher speak in an Eastern European language on 29.86
  79.       MHz USB.

  81.       Anyone else heard what sounds    like Russian aero  military
  82.       traffic  using  USB  above  the  10  meter  ham band?     By
  83.       agreement (WARC '79) the spectrum from 29.7 -    30.005    MHz
  84.       is allocated worldwide for fixed and mobile use only.

  86.       The language I heard could be    Russian     or  other  Eastern
  87.       European,  but  not  French, Spanish,    German,    or anything
  88.       spoken in the    Americas or in Asia.

  90.       Some of the stations sounded like  they  are    transmitted
  91.       from    an aircraft due    to the ever present (400 Hz?) whine
  92.       on their signals.  Net control was the strongest and    had
  93.       no such whine.

  111.   I just put together a circuit using that IC from All Electronics.
  112. (A spec. sheet comes with it).  Gain is flat out to ~300 MHz, peaks
  113. around 700 Mhz (+23 dB), and drops stone-like beyond 1.1 Ghz.
  114. Anyway, below 300 Mhz it's +19.5 dB +/- 0.5 dB, at 5 V, 20 mA.
  115. Noise figure is specified 5.5 dB typ, 6.5 dB max at 500 Mhz, but
  116. I didn't measure it.  Not the best low-noise preamp around!

  118.    Power gain is specified at 16 dB min, 19 dB typ (500 Mhz).
  119. Max. output spec. as 3 dBm typ, 5 dBm max (500 Mhz).  At 200 Mhz,

  137. I've notices more and more scanners are not offering 15khz. as a standard
  138. increment for scanning.  According to the freq. info I looked at high band is
  139. pretty much 15khz increments as well as most of 2m.

  141. Anybody have any ideas why 12.5khz. seems so popular and not 15khz?

  156.    No, this article does not represent a new low in  scanner
  157.    journalism,  rather  it  deals  with  a topic "untouched"
  158.    heretofore by other publications!

  160.    Many disposal companies and  waste  haulers  use  two-way
  161.    radios  in  their  trucks to communicate with dispatchers
  162.    and land fill operators.
  163.  
  164.    The Greene Valley Land Fill is  located  in  southwestern
  165.    Naperville  and  covers  several acres.  Trucks from many
  166.    companies dump refuse there.  The  site  is  operated  by
  167.    Oakbrook-based Waste Management, Inc. under contract from
  168.    the DuPage County Forest Preserve.  Listen  for  them  on
  169.    463.425 MHz.

  171.    Browning-Ferris  Industries  operates  the  Mallard  Lake
  172.    landfill in Bloomingdale.
  173.  
  174.    I use Tri-County Scanvenger Service to haul garbage every
  175.    week.   One  day I was late setting my garbage containers
  176.    outside, so I telephoned the company dispatcher.  I  then
  177.    listened  in  on his dialog with the garbage truck driver
  178.    on 463.2 MHz, directing the driver to return to  my  home
  179.    for a late pickup.
